EVENT PLANNED TO HONOR & REMEMBER THE 5th ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11TH
BOSTON – Representative Susan Williams Gifford and Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry will be hosting a service demonstrating appreciation and support of our military and public safety officials. This event is also being held to recognize the 5th year Anniversary of September 11, 2001.
The remembrance service will take place on the evening of September 11, 2006, at the Buzzards Bay Town Green on Main Street from 6-7pm. The purpose of the service is to remember those who passed on September 11, 2001, and show our respect and appreciation for our police, fire, and military officials who work to protect us every day.
During the service, recognition and respect will be paid to the families who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. Along with a remembrance of the sacrifices made by those who perished on September 11th, the program will include appreciation to those who serve in our military, fire service, and law enforcement communities.
Representatives Gifford and Perry have made arrangements for a flyover of United States Air Force F-15’s fighter jets from the Massachusetts Air National Guard, 102nd Fighter Wing currently stationed at Otis Air Force Base. Also included in the events will be a blessing offered by Chaplain Alan Wilmot of the United States Coast Guard and the National Anthem will be sung by Sandwich High School student, Krysta Lubold.
Retired Massachusetts State Police Trooper Dan Clark will be on hand to perform several patriotic songs. Dan Clark is well known for his passionate and theatrical performance of many patriotic songs and themes. He has been singing for over 25 years and has performed for past and present Presidents of the United States, Governors, the Boston Pops, as well as many local and National audiences.
Along with comments by Representative Gifford and Perry, Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey will be on hand and will address those in attendance. Several police and fire departments will be attending the event, including appearances by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard, the Wareham Police Honor Guard as well as many police officers, fire firefighters, and members of our armed forces from the surrounding communities.
Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops will host a drop off location for items to include in care packages, which will be mailed to our service members fighting the war against terrorism all over the World. Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops has collected items and mailed out over 1,000 care packages to members of the United States military. Representatives Gifford and Perry invite all elected officials and citizens to attend, but wish to stress that this is not a political event and out to respect to the date and family members of our fallen heroes, it is requested that no political signs or materials be passed out at this event. The goal of the service is to remember those who passed on September 11, 2001 and show our respect and appreciation for our police, fire, and military officials.
Those attending are encouraged to bring American Flags and Support the Troops signs to proudly display. Individuals seeking to purchase Support the Troops signs may do so at Mary’s Book Store located at 604 Route 6A, East Sandwich.
Admission to this event is free. Those attending are encouraged to bring an item for the military care packages. This event is scheduled rain or shine.
